I’m new to this forum, and fairly new to this diagnosis, but was hoping others might’ve experienced something similar. After being on the BC pill for my entire adult life, I went off it a year and a half ago because my daily migraines had gotten so bad, and I thought that was the root cause. Initially I felt a bit sluggish and began gaining weight despite having a very clean diet and training for an IRONMAN triathlon. I’ve always been an athlete with a very lean, muscular body and enough energy to train upwards of 20 hours a week so this was been a crushing blow. My skin also broke out terribly. Over the course of the many months that followed, my sluggishness blossomed into crippling fatigue, soreness, and muscle pain. My formerly athletic frame swelled by 20 pounds for no understandable reason, the acne worsened, coupled with other skin woes and itching in areas I’d rather not mention. Plus, what I’d always chalked up to IBS intensified to the point where eating pretty much anything made me bloat painfully. I saw half a dozen different doctors and specialists and each told me nothing was wrong, and that since I still wasn’t large enough to be classified as obese, I shouldn’t worry about the mystifying weight gain. Some docs even said it was all in my head and I should be on mood elevators. Finally, I found a biochemist and nutritionist who diagnosed candida as the root of all my symptoms. Apparently, without the BC pill to regulate hormones, due to candida, they are now terribly imbalanced. I’ve now been on probiotics, enzymes and anti-fungals for just under a month. The die-off has been severe and so far, the weight isn’t budging. Has anyone had a similar experience and come out the other side? I fear that if this doesn’t improve, I’ll continue to get bigger and bigger, in addition to just generally feeling like crap.

It isn’t what I’m eating. I had my diet evaluated by multiple nutritionists and an endocrinologist. There is no possible way the calories or nutrients should’ve resulted in weight gain. And every tracking app said I should’ve LOST rather than gained weight during this period due to excellent diet and a whole friggin lot of exercise (an IRONMAN is 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike, and 26.2-mile run). Whole foods, lean proteins, no processed food, no junk, etc. Tried eliminating gluten, corn, dairy, caffeine, alcohol, sugar and other possible culprits but to no avail. Up until a year and a half ago, for my entire adult life I’d maintained between 12 and 19% body fat – the levels recommended for elite female athletes. If I had a nickel for every time someone said “maybe you need to eat/not eat XYZ” I’d have a lot of nickels. I wish it were that simple! What I’m learning about this infection is that no matter what you do, until it is cured, no weight will come off. Just wondering if others shared this experience.
