I first want to encourage all of us to keep going and be proud to know that what we are doing is a good, admirable thing to do. Through reading many questions and concerns on the forum it seems like we are missing (or at least not emphasizing enough) two vital components in our quest for better health: de-toxing and de-stressing.

I’d like to tell you that without detoxing you will continue to feel the way that you are: sick, tired, brain foggy and in pain. And without de-stressing you will continue to feel moody, in pain, and more susceptible to infection.

So, what can we do to de-tox and de-stress?

    1. Join a gym with a dry sauna and use it, 4-5 times a week up to 20 minutes. Drinking LOTS of water and scrubbing the skin after (while taking a shower).
    2. Meditate, every day, ideally for an hour. I use an audio program that is wonderful for this.
    3. Deep, abdominal breathing, every hour, each day
    4. Drink water! Lots and lots of water
    5. Supps: Mega-dose buffered vitamin C, take magnesium citrate w/ calcium
    6. Go for slow walks in nature, get outside.
    7. Take 2 showers a day, and use a skin brush
    8. Detox powders (You choose: #1 – OptiCleanse GHI #2 – Paleocleanse #3 Ultraclear Plus)
    9. Spend less time thinking about your illness, symptoms, allergies, and more time doing things that fill you up (friends, volunteering, music, reading, whatever it is that encourages you!)
    10. What else do you think would help to de-tox and de-stress?

    For de-stressing:

    1. As you say, meditation is great and, specifically, I find mindfulness to be absolutely excellent. It enables to take my practice with me off the meditation cushion, so when I do go for a walk in nature it is all the more vivid.

    2. Cognitive Behavioural Techniques are useful tools if you find yourself becoming overwhelmed by the power of negative thoughts. There are a number of free online courses that can help you begin to address unhelpful though patterns.

    3. Staying away from google – if you have a plan, stick to it.

    De-toxifying:

    1. I find epsom salt baths to help flush the crap out of my body. These are especially good since that I am too ill to leave the house often and so can’t get to a sauna.

    2. Again, meditation. It supports immune function. I would also be willing to bet that, since stress can impair glutathione production and digestion, meditation also actively assists in detoxification. However, I have never seen any scientific evidence of that so it is only my own hypothesis.

    3. Sleep as much during the night as you can. If you wake up early, try to get back to sleep. Also, try going to bed earlier. As well as being essential to bodily repair, enough sleep can make the difference between stressed and relaxed.

I really like this, esp #3 of De-stressing and #1 of detoxing; I know some don’t have access to sauna’s so this is a great alternative. Especially if a dry skin brush is used.

    Thanks for sharing.
