I need some advice from you guys as I believe some of you would have experienced and overcome this already.
So I am well into my second week of the diet, after a week of cleanse, (so week 3 in total) and I was doing pretty well. Last Friday, though, I started feeling unwell, started coughing really badly, and since then it just got worse. On the positive side I don’t feel anything else, just some dizziness. I had some back pain when it all started but it’s gone now. It’s just this really nasty chesty cough.. and I don’t know what to do!! I don’t want to go to my GP, cause I am afraid he’ll want to give me antibiotics which clearly I don’t want to take, but at the moment I’m just drinking plenty, using vicks vaporub at night and taking some sugar-free cough syrup, none of which seem to be really effective :o(
Can anybody suggest anything I can take that will not ruin all my efforts with the diet?
P.s.: I am pretty sure it’s a kind of infection of some sort, not related to candida, as a colleague that works next to me has got the same thingMay 16, 2012 at 1:46 am #81954
That’s weird, exactly the same thing is happening to me! I’ve got an awful cough, I’m sure it’s a cold because my colleague next to me has it too.
I’ve looked around the website and it seems liquorice is allowed on the main site, so I’m going to get some liquorice root / liquorice tea to make tea. It’s what the chinese use as an expectorant to help you cough up the gack out of your lungs, and it’s super sweet and good for supporting the adrenals too. I’ve been craving it for ages actually, so now I guess I have an excuse.
Must be something going round at the moment!May 16, 2012 at 2:06 am #81956
Yeah it must be going around I agree, stupid stupid cough just at the worst moment!!! Thing is I hate liquorice, I really can’t stand it, so I need an alternative!! I heard thyme could work?
How long have you been having it for Hal? It’s my 5th day today, so hopefully it won’t last very much longer?
Hope you feel better soon! xMay 16, 2012 at 3:11 am #81959

I got a cough and a cold as die off when I first started. It seemed to be that the candida was trying to come out through mucus in my chest and head so I did everything I could to get it out. I dont know how much of a difference it made but you never know.
I found that lemon drinks and the liver flush drink with ginger and garlic brought phlegm up almost immediately and I also used a facial sauna / steamer type thing with vicks to bring up more.
Hope you feel better soon 🙂May 16, 2012 at 3:50 am #81961
I’ve had it for about 5 days now, and it seems to be trying to settle on my chest. Just got some liquorice root, so I’m going to hope that sorts it out. I’m also having hot water with lemon juice and raw ginger in it, that got ris of my sore throat, and helped my cough too like Jo*Jo says.
I don’t know about Thyme, worth a go a guess!
Jo*Jo, thanks for the info, I thought it was die off at first, but everyone else around me seems to have it to, and it doesn’t seem to get worse when I take more anti fungals. Maybe I just picked it up because my immune system was low trying to deal with all the toxins already floating around my body? Who knows.
Get well soon too! 🙂May 16, 2012 at 6:14 am #81965

Take astragulus capsules to boost your immune system. Also, if you are not out in the sun very much, take 1,000 iu Vitamin D, for about a week, then taper off to every other day, until you get more sunshine on a regular basis. You need Vit. D for a good and healthy immune system. You can also, take vit. C. (ascorbic acid) ? Someone correct me if I am wrong…but you could take 3,000 mg spread it out over the course of the day, not all at once or you get loose stools. It won’t hurt you, it will just come out in the wash, if you take too much at once.
Drink tons of lemon water, too. I hope you feel better soon 🙂
Oh, and if you aren’t already taking Milk Thistle, take that too, to support your liver, while flushing out toxins and the toxins from this virus that you probably have.May 16, 2012 at 8:34 am #81984

The reason you have a cough is because toxins are being released/detoxed via the lungs. There is a few ways the body detoxes toxins, one is via the skin (sweat), the second is via the bowels (going to the bathroom), and the third is the lungs. The lungs are the dumping grounds of the body, so if you are killing candida, the toxins will be released via the lungs.
When I started out on the diet, I had a pretty bad cough with lots of mucous and I basically had flu-like symptoms. These are all die off symptoms and almost everyone should experience a cough due to die-off. For me it lasted a few weeks to a month or so and then went away. I still get maybe one cough a day (I’m a smoker) but not like it was during he die-off period.

Thanks Colleen, that’s great advice. I will indeed be adding milk thistle.
Raster, normally I would agree, but since I’ve been having die off for ages without these type of cold symptoms, and everyone else in my office also seems to be sick and I know they’re not detoxing because the b*st*rds keep eating chocolate biscuits in front of me, I’m going to assume that this is an actual virus. 🙂
I guess if it tails on though, that’s when I’ll be assuming the toxins have noticed another outlet. I’m starting to feel like poison ivy, leaking toxins from every orifice…May 17, 2012 at 10:36 am #82134

Around 6 months ago I started supplementing with something that was causing an extreme die off. It was similar to when i first started but the die off was much worse, I had the same feeling in my chest and was coughing for about 3 weeks. It was weird cause I felt sick and started to feel really good at the same time like getting more energy. I just drank a good amount of water, used a vaporizer when I slept . You should grab an anti-oxidant, a sea salt water flush in luke warm water may help if you do it every couple of days. If you feel up to it try going for a run, sweating some of it wouldn’t hurt.May 17, 2012 at 11:15 am #82136
I do love running actually, but right now I’m sick enough to be off work, so I’ll give it some time before I run. Breathing enough to walk up stairs is a struggle. I can’t sleep at the moment because I’m coughing too much. It’s exhausting.
I guess whatever it is, the bad stuff is coming out, so fungus or virus, that’s fine by me.May 21, 2012 at 5:46 am #82484
Hey Hal how are you feeling? I am starting to feel better today, after 10 days.. I do believe it was die-off for me cause my colleague never developed into anything as bad as mine.. and she smokes too..
Anyway I am kinda relieved cause I hadn’t had any other die-off symptoms till now (am now on week 3 of the diet after 1 week of detox), so I thought I was doing something wrong… anyway, hope you feel better!

Glad you’re finally feeling better, that must be a relief! I’ve been sick about 10 days too, and still have an evil tickly cough but I don’t feel otherwise as bad as I have been.
I’m starting to think that I caught a cold, but the die off spotted another route for elimination and climbed on board as well, making me worse. My colleague still has a cough, but I think she has a dodgy immune system as well.
Nice! Well done. Stupidly I started taking SF722 at the same time as being ill, so I think part of my general sickness is my body getting used to it.
I think I’m 9 weeks since I started the diet, 7 since I cut out brown rice, 2 since I cut out 90% dark chocolate.
I think everyone has something they’re hooked on that holds them back. Hopefully I’ve eliminated all mine now.
Hope you make a swift full recovery!
