Are you still unsure about a food that’s not on this list? Our Candida treatment program contains lots more information about how to make delicious recipes during this stage of the treatment plan. We also recommend several different detox techniques to make your Candida detox more effective.

Vegetables

Spring Salad with Mustard Tarragon DressingEating non-starchy vegetables starves Candida colonies of the sugar that feeds them. You should buy your vegetables fresh, and eat them raw, steamed or grilled.

When so many sugary foods are removed from the diet, many people default to eating large amounts of starchy vegetables. In this phase of the plan, you should really be sticking to the vegetables in the list above.

Minimize starchy vegetables such as sweet potatoes, potatoes, yams, corn, winter squash, beets, peas, parsnips, and beans. This is because they are relatively high in carbohydrates that might feed a Candida overgrowth, especially in this initial stage. You will be able to add some of these back to your diet soon enough, but for this initial stage you should stick to this list of low starch, organic veggies. Rutabaga is an exception due to its antifungal properties.

Probiotic foods like kimchi or sauerkraut are also good options at this stage. They are easy to digest and contain lots of nutrients.

Fruits

lemonsSome people may be able to eat some low sugar fruits (e.g., berries or green apple) in this initial stage, but we would recommend leaving them out for now.

There are a few fruits that you can still eat in this stage. Lemons and limes are two fruits that are very low in sugar and have an alkalizing effect on the tissues. Avocados and olives are also very low sugar, and in fact many people don’t even realize they are technically fruits at all!

If you are struggling with the diet and feel that you need to eat some small amounts of low sugar fruit, that’s OK. However, remember that in the later phases of the plan, you’ll be able to introduce low sugar fruits and test whether they are problematic.

Cooking Ingredients

Herbs and spices, in addition to the lively flavors they impart to your meal, are a wonderful way to get additional antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and important plant compounds called phytonutrients in your candida cleanse.

When you cook foods, use virgin coconut oil (this is also a great antifungal), virgin grapeseed oil, or virgin olive oil. These are also great for salad dressings. Look for a reputable source of olive oil – there are many fakes out there. If you have a local olive oil specialty shop, that’s a great place to go and check out some options.

For your salads, you can use these oils with various combinations of  ACV, lemon juice, salt, and pepper to make delicious dressings.

Proteins

Organic Hard Boiled EggsDuring this phase, the idea is to give your digestive system as much of a break as possible. That means eliminating foods that are difficult to digest, like red meats.

To give your digestive system some much-needed relief, consider eating eggs as your main source of protein. Eggs are one of the easiest forms of protein to digest, they are incredibly nutritious, and they will give you energy that lasts for hours.

The best ways to eat your eggs are to boil or poach them. Try to fully cook the egg white, but leave the yolk runny. The egg white contains anti-nutrients that are neutralized by cooking, but the egg yolk is at its most nutritious when undercooked.
