what is the consensus on prebiotic supplementation – chicory root, inulin, FOS, rice bran? The strict diet recommends these, such as chicory coffee. But I saw posts saying perhaps powder is not ideal. I started eating 2 spoonful’s of rice bran 2x/day, plus bob’s buckwheat cereal 2 weeks ago. I started itching in the rear, something that had gone away completely about 3 months ago. I couldn’t tell if that was due to more die-off from candida I hadn’t yet reached, or, if it was causing the candida to regrow, and then die-off again. (and am now reacting to the buckwheat so will stay off that).
with fruit, I get a sore throat. but with rice bran, no reaction – just increased itchiness.
The issue i’m fighting with is, do I go back to GAPS/SCD and avoid the prebiotic fibers, or do I stay on them. I feel like I’m not reaching the infestation in the colon, which is why the back of my tongue is still coated.

If you get itching after eating something, this is a symptom of an allergic reaction. I also symptoms after eating rice bran so I didn’t eat it any more.
I would stick with chickory root and maybe work in some buckwheat, oat bran, or teff which are also prebiotics.
Dvjorge does not recommend pure inulin on the diet.

the itch I’m referring to isn’t an allergic reaction kind. it’s the itch you get in the pooper from killing candida. mine had totally gone away for a while, until I started prebiotics. but, no other reactions from them (except the buckwheat which I became allergic to because I was eating it everyday for a week).
what’s the difference between eating a spoonful of inulin or eating a spoonful of oat bran, or drinking chicory root? dvjorge, if you’re reading this, what do you think of supplementing with prebiotics?
thanks!June 2, 2013 at 3:11 pm #105535
I think I’ll stay on them a bit and see how it goes. For those on GAPS/SCD, check out this article..June 2, 2013 at 9:46 pm #105550

UGH the pooper itch 🙁
I got it back this week, and I have no idea why! I haven’t really done anything differently. I’m pretty stressed though, so I’m chalking it up to that. My body does NOT handle stress well at all…hoping it goes away.
But generally, I see that as a reaction to something not going well in my body.
