Hi everyone, I’m posting this because I’ve been to the doctor 3 times now (twice for strep) and can’t afford to go back and have them shrug their shoulders again and tell me it sounds like my body is fighting it and unsure of what my other symptoms could be. All 3 doctors barely looked at my throat or symptoms and diagnosed first strep(no culture test), then mono(negative test), then candida overgrowth and dismissed everything else as illness stress related or didn’t know. It’s been a month and a half and little is changing and some other symptoms (mainly a very white hard palate and one swollen tonsil for a month now) are worrying me it might be something else (or also). Anyone know if these are rare candida symptoms or have had anything like this? I have looked everywhere with no one having them.
Weeks 1 and 2:
I had pretty much every symptom of strep throat except for red spots on the soft pallate, but the white spots on my tonsils looked more like granules than milky patches. My girlfriend had strep symptoms, went on antibiotics, went away in a day. My antibiotics didn’t work until the 5th day, but swollen tonsils and a few very very tiny white granules remained.
– The tiny white granules have grown for some days, then returned to little or none, then come back and then little to none for weeks. They are granules, not milky patches like strep.
– White stuff growing on the gums (started in week 5)
– Thrush on tongue
– Left tonsil very swollen since the start, and both were swollen during the “strep” phase.
– Pulled out 2 very large tonsil stones and one small one
– Sores above uvala that look somewhat like cold sores (I often get random sores during any illnesses for my entire life, but never on the lips and never been tested for herpes, and doctors think they’re just normal fever blisters and not herpes)
– Bloating and cramps (for weeks 4 through 6)
– Undigested food in stolls (weeks 5 and 6)
– Constipation (during strep and for all weeks except this week). Pretty normal bowel movements and stools now for the most part)
– Week 3 had something growing between gums/cheek, went away in a few days
I took this at a slight angle, the tonsils both look swollen but the left one is much more and I don’t think the right one is swollen at all, it’s normally like that. The white granules didn’t show up well and the tongue doesn’t look white but it looks like many thrush photos online. Also the sores didn’t show up well, they are raised bumps that look like pimples/blisters.
– Have been on higher and higher doses of probiotics (with pill coatings to make it through the stomach), yogurt, and chewable probiotics (to try to keep some in the mouth)
– Been on a pretty restrictive diet the past 2 weeks after learning more about candida. Mostly veggies, salad, flax, a bit of fish, beans, yogurt
– Take strong mult-vitamins and garlic
– Took a candida yeast fighting supplement with I think it was 260mg of the acid that supposed to fight bad bacteria, but ran out and stopped taking it 5 days ago.
– The day before I got “strep,” I was swimming in a remote river and swallowed a bunch of water by accident
– My girlfriend just got a sore throat again this week and the doc gave her antibiotics again
– I rarely get sick, never had strep before, pretty healthy in general and this is the worst I’ve ever been sick and I’m 31.September 3, 2013 at 3:57 pm #109915
I’ve had strept throat over a dozen times. Unfortunately, the antibiotics only reduce their numbers but don’t completely eliminate them in your gut. I have taken every single antibiotic on the market when I was younger and they didn’t work, it kept on coming back again.
What you need to do is change the environment within your gut so that it doesn’t come back again. You need to have your immune system attack it again, so strengthening your immune system is pretty key here as far as a long term solution.
A good naturopath can help you come up with a treatment plan which likely will cost hundreds per month and hopefully will be effective. If you want to go the treat yourself route, then there is a forum protocol able developed that can help you get better.
You might want to take special antifungals that attack parasites to fight the strept. I’d do some research for the best antifungals to fight strept.
Candida and strept are created in similar environments, so it’d be best to attack both at the same time.

After much research, I’ve found a few things that change my original post. One, my white hard palate and yellow/orange soft palate are completely normal. I just never looked at them much before so I didn’t know, and saw many images online of those not being white and orange, but I looked at friends and family’s mouths and they had very similar looking roofs of their mouths and they’re perfectly healthy.
Also, I decided to go back on a regular diet to see what affect it had, because I havtn’t seen much symptom changes for weeks. A few days later I started getting a lot of bloating and stomach pains, as well as increased white spots on my tonsils and thrush came back more. I’m going to try to get another picture of the tonsils if I can, because the spots are much more obvious now. They look like bacterial growth more than anything, tiny white stuff that’s spreading along the outsides of the tonsil cavities.
My bowel movements are still fine. stools look healthy and not much undigested food anymore, but lots of constipation again.
Everything else is the same as before.
Thanks raster, I didn’t think about the possibility of strep remaining after antibiotics in small numbers, however I was thinking my girlfriend may still have it because her prescribed antibiotics were only once a day for like 5 days and not one that is the most widely used for treating strep.
Strengthening the immune system is in line with lots of other things I’ve been reading now, so I am taking more zinc and eating foods to strengthen it now.
I’m probably going to see a throat doctor this week to get a confirmed specialist’s opinion before any treatment of possible strep, and will try to update this thread.September 7, 2013 at 7:05 pm #110057
The problem with strept is we all have this parasite in our guts. The environment in the gut changes to allow it to thrive. This is why not everyone has a problem with it; our body typically has checks and balances to keep in check. But if you break down, just about anything can take over impacting our health.

Here’s a better picture, I finally had some time to do it right. Better picture of the sores (which are now starting to decrease in size) and the white stuff on my tonsils, which didn’t really show up at all in previous pictures I took. Notice the way the white looks, more like a bacterial growth pattern.
I superimposed and sharpened a closer look at the left tonsil onto this image for a better look at the “white spots” I refer to, which were there even during strep.September 12, 2013 at 3:59 am #110221
I went to another doctor, one I’ve seen many times years ago and trust her opinion, and she said none of what I have is candida related except the white on my tongue, which is now a ton less. (and what she said matched the other doctor too, though he couldn’t pin-point everything else she did…see below).
The only thing that has changed during my candida cleansing, is my tongue. It was a lot more white for a week, but when I started my cleanse my tongue got better pretty quickly and has remained pretty low whiteness since. I’m sure I still have candida, but it’s not what’s causing all my other symptoms.
She said all of my symptoms are from a compromised immune system from strep and antibiotics. She made a lot of sense in her conclusions and based upon my symptoms. The sores are just fever blisters from the stress, the white granules are actually normal bacteria growths like the ones that form tonsil stones. My red throat has gone away, the tonsils are way less swollen and pretty much normal except a tiny bit of red and swelling still. And my digestive problems are from IBS..Irritable Bowel Syndrome (which I can confirm because I’ve been testing many different foods and the only thing consistent with the pain is eating too much or iterative foods like peppers, and right after meals, not later from die-off. And probably from too much antibiotics and diet change, which I stopped 3 days ago and already feeling a lot less sore and problems after meals).
And the white growth on the gums is some kind of fungus, not candida, probably lichen planus or something very similar (she wasn’t an expert on that stuff).
So be aware, digestive issues might resemble die-off symptoms, but could also be something else! I will update again if IBS doesn’t turn out to be the problem. I’m back on a more normal diet testing the waters.September 12, 2013 at 5:36 am #110224

If you don’t have anything constructive to say then I suggest that you go elsewhere…
