Hey, I’m new to the site, first time poster looking for some advice with the approach to the diet.

What do people think about the reduction of starches and some natural sugars (polysaccharides) when following the candida diet?

It seems that as soon as I cut them out I become constipated. I was talking to a very good doctor recently about this who was advising me that polysaccharides are important as they help to draw moisture to the bowels for healthy movements.

I’m about to embark on the diet again after doing so with reasonable success about 3 years ago but I do remember being in quite some pain with constipation during the die off period last time around.

As far as I can tell the polysaccharides containing foods are all excluded from the diet as they are fruits and starchy vegetables. Does anybody know what polysaccharides containing foods are allowed on the candida diet?

    Thanks
    B

I personally think that constipation is due to much larger factors such as how much you chew your food. Did you know that you should chew your food 30+ times per each bite?

That’s a valid point you make, I have consciously been trying to chew more often, I’m currently on approx 15 per mouthful so I might go for 20 this evening.

That said, the constipation thing only ever seems to be a problem when I’m on the diet, it’s never an issue when I’m not on it so I’m not sure simply increasing my number chews alone is going to entirely prevent the problem you know.

Yes you are correct. There are other ways to improve your digestion. If you have gas problems, I would consider hydro-chloric acid:

If you are deficient in enzymes and crap out undigested food, I would try out bitters or digestive enzymes. Most people are deficient in enzymes if they have candida.

I would check out this constipation remedies post:
