I think I may have a Candida overgrowth, I go to the gastroenterologist for the first time tomorrow. I’ve put it off for a long time. I

I faintly remember the first time I got “sick” it was about 2 years ago I called in to work, I actually thought I caught something like Coccidia or giardiasis from my dogs, because they were sick right before me and they eat rabbit poop.

I put it off for two years because it’s really embarrassing! But I ended up in the ER a few days ago with rectal bleeding seemingly for no reason since I hadn’t had any bouts of diarrhea or constipation that were abnormal or anything. Talk about embarrassing.. If I had only just gone to see a specialist when this first started..

    Anyways here are my symptoms
About 3 bowel movements per day mostly in the morning pretty much after drinking coffee.. I love coffee…I’ve been off it this week
Always a lot of mucus, really stringy looking stuff.
Occasionally I just go to pee or maybe feel like I have to poo and only clear frothy foamy stuff comes out?? Sometimes it’s yellowish.
Sometimes I just pee and some small bits of poo and stringy mucus come out with little to no effort and no feeling like I have to have a bowel movement.
Infertility for the last year and a half
Dark circles under my eyes (though in all fairness I’ve had that ever since I can remember!)
My first ever what I believe to be a small sebaceous cyst on my forehead popped up 3 months ago
I have no real pain in my stomach other than the crampy, bloaty, urgent feeling you get when you have to go bad. My stomach is often doing flips making noise gurgling, crampy and bloaty.
    I don’t have vomiting
My white blood cell count was NOT elevated which is the part that confuses me, if It was my gallbladder, if it was IBD like crohns (which is what they said it was pointing to) wouldn’t my white blood cells be up??
The rectal bleeding is totally new I’ve never had that, never had hemorrhoids doctor didn’t “feel any”

They put me on both cipro and flagyl. Today my bowel movements are a dark green nearly black but pretty normal in consistency not too hard or soft and MUCH better than the previous days.

I just started taking probiotics, a chewable, and danactive, I even took nasty apple cider vinegar today. I’ve been trying to eat bland since my ER trip.

Does this sound like candida ? Should I tell the doctor I’ve done some research and think this is what it sounds like??

This is most likely adrenal fatigue.

Sorry, I don’t know anything about that.

Why exactly are you taking antibiotics?

You can try, but if it is a normal doctor, the chances are low that he will agree.
For testing: search for candia 5, IgG and stool test. Most of these tests are not conclusive.

Please keep us updated Jld, how did it go at the Gastro?

This could be alot of things, the dark stool color is because of blood, so if you were bleeding thats why the stool is dark.

As to why it’s bleeding, could be h.pylori which can cause ulcers, which could be why they gave antibiotics.

I go at 2:40 today I’m not sure how much they can diagnose on first visit but I really want answers!

I suppose I’m currently on antibiotics for no reason at all. They just gave me them and told me to take them for 10 days. I know it’s bad to quit antibiotics earlier than prescribed, I’m on day 5.

Most of my problems have subsided for now coincidentally. I’ve been to scared to eat or drink anything that could cause me problems though.

The problem with the doctors is what drug is there to treat candida? There really isn’t all that many drugs to treat this and so why would they diagnose it? The only drugs that treat yeast are antifungal drugs like nystatin and fluconazole and these may or may not work.

I also would ask for a diagnosis for whatever you are being treated with the antibiotics…unless they diagnose something I don’t know why they prescribed it. It sounds like they think you have a bacterial infection…

Unless you have oral thrush and rectal itching I don’t think it sounds like candida overgrowth really, especially considering that your digestion is good. Most people with candida are constipated even when consuming coffee and the constipation causes digestive disorders.

I’d ask for a stool sample because you likely have something else going on like sibo or h.pylori, etc.

I have the opposite problem of constipation, I don’t think I’ve ever been constipated!

I can pinpoint the exact week I got sick, before that I was perfect I’ve always had good health. My tongue does look white to me and my husband agrees but not near as white as some that you find on google.

One of my antibiotics is for yeast and one is for bacteria.

Wouldnt my white blood cell count be up if I had a bacterial or yeast infection? Wouldn’t it be up if I had inflammation? That’s what’s confusing me.

Not necessarily, neutropenia could itself be the cause of Candida. I suffer from both Candida and neutropenia. There’s a reason why people suffering from yeast issues have problems with taking DMSA. It’s been multiple times shown that DMSA worsens neutropenia.

Yay I can stop taking the antibiotics today. I have to submit a stool sample. They were going to skip stool sample until I said I worked with dogs. He is thinking celiacs disease and immediately ordered a colonoscopy set for the 30th. I don’t know how I feel about all of this so far. I hope a colonoscopy isn’t as bad as I imagine it 🙁
