Inspired by the post below I too decided to chronicle my candida battle in hopes of helping someone else.
I’m a 46 year old male in pretty good physical shape…well I used to be. I work out every morning and try to watch what I eat. My story really begins back in 1996 when I noticed that my feet hurt all the time. Nothing a few Ibuprofen would not cure. This problem steadily got worse as time went by and I was eventually taking up to 12 Ibuprofen a day…did not know any better.
I ate whatever I wanted and CRAVED sugar. Sugar was my crack cocaine. I would drink at least 3 Cokes/Pepsi’s a day, eat donuts, cake, all kinds of fast food, pizza, KFC and would break out in a rash if I got too close to a vegetable.
I remember like it was yesterday….October 2002 I was returning from a trip and had horrible stomach pains with diareha (sp?) and only happened after I ate. This went on for the next two years and I totally ignored the warning signs. For the past 3 years I have suffered from the following problems on a daily basis.
All kinds of food allergies, severe body aches and pains, red/irritated eyes, intense seasonal allergies, joint/muscle pain, intense bouts of depression, short term memory problems, migraines, constipation, acid reflux, chest pain and severe mood swings.
Other than that I seemed fine. August 2004 I had two diverticulum rupture and had emergency to remove 12 inches of my colon. I had some really bad complications but survived. One day in 2007 I was eating a grilled cheese sandwhich and noticed that after eating eat I had some really bad indegistion and stomach cramps. This continued to get worse over the next few months. I had several visits with my surgeon, GI doctor and a specialist to try and figure out what was going on and each of them diagnosed me with IBS.
Not knowing any better I tried to cut out dairy to see if I improved. I did not. I next eliminated gluten..I did not get better. I continued to live in horrible pain all over my body, severe depression, red irritated eyes, stomach cramps and was affraid to eat as it caused me pain. Just by chance I ran across a website that mentioned candida and I instantly called my doctor. He said there was no such thing and to eat whatever I wanted. Boy…was that a mistake.
Finally…after a year of intense pain…I decided to try an antifungal. It made me feel horrible so I quit taking it thinking I was allergic to is somehow. I was not aware of the “die off” problem. Eventually I cut the dose in half and eventually worked my way up to the recommended doseage. It seemed to help a little but at this point I was not really convinced about candida. By the way…from 2005 to 2008 I had 3 other surgeries..each time I was on broad-specturm antibiotics.
This past April I was admitted to the hospital after spending a night in the ER with severe abdominal pain. I was in for 6 days. With nothing to eat for 3 days I finally looked into the mirror and noticed that my eyes were crystal clear. I was released on day 6 and instantly noticed that I had no depression, I was able to eat whatever I wanted, no acid reflux…I FELT GREAT!
I went back to my normal diet…ya know…eating junk and within 3 months all these crazy symptoms retunred with a vengence. This past Saturday I finally decided to try and fix this and began drinking Apple Cider Vinegar while I wait on my anti-fungal to arrive in the mail.
Yesterday I eliminated 90% of sugar from my diet and today I have noticed an increase in my anxiety, chest pain, joint/muscle pain and I cant seem to eat anything. THIS SUCKS but I’m determined to stick with it!
I will post again tomorrow. Is there anyone out there wanting to do this with me? It seems that things like this are little easier to do if you have someone to do it with.November 23, 2010 at 7:21 am #62279
7:45am on day 3: I’ve been hitting the Apple Cider Vinegar pretty hard for the past 3 days and today I’m going to cut back a little as the “die off” symptoms are pretty bad. Intense anxiety/depression, joint/muscle pain, sinus congestion, allergies to just about anything, some pretty serious sweating, constipation, weight loss and poor memory.
Pretty hard to believe a fungus can casue the human body so much trouble. It’s even more troubling that modern medicine has absolutely no clue about this afliction. I’ve been taking testosterone replacement shots because my levels were extremely low but will have to discontinue those as I’ve found that hormone replacement makes candida worse.
I found a great recipie on this site for a breakfast parfait that included plain yogurt, green apples, cinnamon and almonds…it’s really good. Anyway…Im hoping the days start getting better soon as I’m not real pleasant to be around right not and with Thanksgiving being held at my house this year I want to be in a good mood.November 23, 2010 at 12:31 pm #62280
1:30pm on day 3: Just ate lunch and feeling dizzy and lightheaded…guessing too much sugar/starch in what I ate. Anxiety has leveled off some and is a little better than yesterday. The depression seems a little better as well..things aren’t seeming as gloomy as yesterday. The body aches/pains seem to be a little better also.
I did mix a little apple cider vinegar in some water earlier but I have only consumed about 1/3 of what I did yesterday. I am noticing small black specks in my vision as well as some wavy lines…this does concern me. I also seem jittery and woke up this moring at 5am with night sweats.
So far I’ve lost 5lbs in 3 days which I’m sure is due to the malabsorbtion casued by the candida. I HATE THIS! I do see a pain management doctor and right now the only way I’m making it through the day is by taking a pain pill. I hate these pills with everything in me but were it not for this stuff I would not be able to get out of bed each morning.
I’m hoping that by Dec. 1 most of this will be over and I can get back to living my life. While I am seeing improvement I know I have a long way to go.November 24, 2010 at 8:29 am #62283
9am Day 4: This morning I woke up at 4:30am with chest pain and my sinuses are so plugged up I cant breath through my nose. Still fighting allergies of all kinds, body aches/pains, anxiety and depression, red/itchy/irritated eyes and insomnia but all of those problems seem to be getting just a little better but really difficult to say how much. I did start taking a Garlic suppliment this morning as well.
I’m affraid to eat anything still but have found a few items that I can tollerate. I am a little confused about a few things I’ve read on this site about Green Tea. I did read where green tea was an acceptable substitute to coffee but on a different page read that we were to avoid caffeine at all costs. Hmmmmm???
This morning is very damp/wet outside and a serious cold front is due to come in tonight. I do seem to really suffer when it is cold and damp outside which is just another symptom of a systemic candida infection.
I guess the bottom line for right now is I can’t really tell if I’m getting better or not. I can tell when I have an allergic reaction to certain foods as both of my ears get hot and turn bright red. I’m hoping my Fungal Defense arrives today.November 24, 2010 at 1:07 pm #62285

You sound like you’ve had a hell of a time.
Are you just drinking the Apple Cider Vinegar as your means to tackling Candida while you wait for your anti-fungal or are you doing the diet as mentioned here?
When I started with Step 1 of the Candida Diet shown on this website, I wasn’t able to get all ingredients for the Detox Drinks of the fast, so I started by only eating the rather limited foods mentioned on the list for Step 1 – I took no anti-fungal tablets – but I did take 1 sachet of ThreeLac every day. After only a few days, I noticed that I was losing weight, had much more energy and many of my aches and pains were lessening. I followed the Step 1 eating regime for 2 weeks, by which time the Bentonite clay had arrived and I could start the 7-day fast.
Apart from the fact that the drinks taste rather terrible, it wasn’t that difficult to follow, but that is perhaps because I was SO determined to see it through. I have just had my last Liver Flush drink on Day 7 of the fast and, apart from feeling a bit nauseous (I really hated the Liver Flush concoction), I feel great.
No back or joint pain since the end of Week 1, amazingly clear skin, lots of energy (in spite of the lack of food) and about 15-20 pounds lighter after only 3 weeks.
I’m just about to start Step 2 and introduce anti-fungals. I hadn’t wanted to have them in Step 1 because I wanted to see how well just the change of food would benefit me.
I’m relatively new to all of this and we seem to be at different stages, but I’ll be going through it to. Let me know how I can help. Hopefully this reply is of some help.
I’ll start Step 2 tomorrow. Unfortunately, my family is having their Thanksgiving meal on Friday night (yes, I know tomorrow is Thanksgiving, but it isn’t celebrated here in Ireland and my daughter won’t be back from university until Friday night), so the entire Candida Diet will be out the window for that 1 meal, but I’ll be back on Step 2 foods on Saturday morning.November 24, 2010 at 2:18 pm #62288
I’ve been drinking Apple Cider Vinegar and have drastically changed my diet and eliminated all sugar and refined white/processed foods. I ordered the Garden of Life Fungal Defense last week so I’m hoping it arrives today.
I noticed that you were taking Threelac and I too have a box of Threelac sitting in my medicine cabinet. When it first arrived I began by taking one packet a day and instantly experience what I can only describe as “STRANGE” side effects or die off…I’m not quite sure. It was strange. I took Threelac for 3 days and had to quit as I felt horrible. This is when I began researching the ingrediants in Threelac and I noticed that one ingrediant is found in human feces so I quit taking it. I have yet to see a negative report on this product..which makes me even more skeptical. I was so hoping Threelac to be the answer for me. It seems to have worked for you.
It is now 3:15pm on Day 4 and I still feel like crap. Eyes are red, sinuses are plugged, chest pains, affraid to eat, lower abdominal pain and EXTREME FATIGUE! Of course tomorrow is Thanksgiving and I have a decision to make. Eat whatever I want and suffer or suffer through watching everyone else eat. This sucks.
All I need is a good day to give me some hope but I have yet to experience a breakthrough. I’m still somewhat confused about the diet. I’ve read on this site that eggs are ok to eat but I’ve also read to stay away from eggs. What to do?November 25, 2010 at 7:13 am #62291
8:ooam on day 5 and I’m getting pissed off. Woke up this moring with bad night sweats, dizzy and light headed, still have the body aches and pains, severe allergies to almost any and all foods. Not really seeing the results I though I would at this point. Today is Thanksgiving and I am about to starve to death. I’m about to say “FU** it” and eat what I want today. Depends on my will power when the rest of the family shows up today.
As I think about this…I did not get dizzy until 30 minutes after taking a Garlic tablet. I now wonder if that is what is causing this. Every damn thing I eat or drink is causing me trouble. I did find out last night that I think I’m allergic to Almonds. I purchased Almond milk last night on the way home from work because I wanted to try it on some cereal…BAD MISTAKE! About an hour later I was suffering from severe gas/abdominal pain, migraine headache and a MONSTER anxiety attach.
Right now it is all I can do to keep my eyes open…I’m very tired for some reason. SEnd some good vibes my way.November 25, 2010 at 5:49 pm #62295
6:45pm on day 5. Not too bad right now. This morning I took one Gralic tablet and felt a little dizzy. This afternoon around 4pm I decided to take another Garlic tablet and I must say that other than some constipation..I dont feel better than I did this time last night. I did read on this site that Garlic was a frontline treatment for Candida so I decided to double my dose to see what happens. I wont get excited until I have two days in a row where I feel like this.
My mind seems clear.November 26, 2010 at 4:43 am #62298
5:30am day 6: Could not sleep at all last night and have been up since 4am this morning. I’m guessing I ate to many pieces of Pumpin Pie yesterday but what the hell. I found an on-line questionaire yesterday which asked about symptoms a person may be experiencing and my results were a “Severe” candida infection. THis crap is hard to get rid of.
My diet yesterday was not all that bad but I am not being strict enough…I CRAVE SUGAR! The cravings drive me insane. Now I know what a crack addict must feel like. Currently I’m sticking with the Apple Cider Vinegar and Garlic tablets and still waiting on my fungal defense to arrive.
Constipation, gas pains, red/irritated eyes, anxiety, depression and cravings seem to be my worst problems currently. Still hoping for that one “REALLY GOOD DAY” to give me that shot of confidence.
As I write this I truly wonder why medicle doctors are so clueless about candida infection. Over the past 3 years I have seen 5 different doctors complaining of my candida symptoms and each of them gave me several different diagnosis like IBS, spastic colon, allergies and lactose intollerance. One doctor I visited was clueless. I asked him “Doctor, what is wrong with me.” His response was “We don’t know.” When I asked hiim about a systemic candida infection he instantly said “No..that’s not it.”
I said “How can you be sure when you do not know what is wrong with me?” He did not like the question, gave me an anti-spasm prescription and sent me on my way.
My point is…if we are able to figure out our problems with candida…why cant so-called trained professionals?November 26, 2010 at 5:21 pm #62303

OMG OMG OMG ok i am here!!! Now please read my story and some of the things i have said if you have not already done so. This is terrible! I am so pissed off at GP’s and am going towards alternative medicine. Of course all this is just my opinion but DO NOT purchase any products off the net! Go all natural. Herbs are great. I think you should go and talk to a nat path and a chinese herbologist (if money is not an issue for you). Also if it is ok for you (not sure how surgery impacts on this) go and get a course of colonics done. I am about to go and do this.
DO NOT GIVE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DO NOT BREAK YOUR DIET NO MATTER HOW BAD YOU WANT TO!
Because your symptoms are so servere and you have had it for so long you will need to stick to cleansing for a longer period of time and like you said if the die off systems get too much maybe ease off on the garlic and apple cider for a while. Stick to a strict diet though (i have written a few ideas for different things you can eat in my post.
CANDIDA IS VERY SNEAKY AND WILL TRY AND TRICK YOU-when you start to feel better this is when you need to persist the most and not think oh i can try something now because if you do BOOM it will get right back in there!
With your garlic taking make sure you take it with food ok. And go fresh get a clove chop it up. Put it on a dessert spoon. Hold you nose and swallow it down with a glass of water. Do one with breaky and one with dinner. Also with water make sure you are drinking it at least filtered or buying good water.
– Another tip i am trying to help my digestive system is only drinking water 30 min before eating and one hour after eating. I also get bad pains or diarehha if i eat something not good. If we drink water around the time of our meals it dilutes our stomach acids making it more difficult to digest food.
Green tea is ok because it does not have caffine in it and it is a prebiotic (helps create an environment in the intenstines that probiotics like)
Eggs are bad for me but my best piece of advice is listen to you body and it will tell you what you can and cant have. It has taken me a long time to get in tune with my body but i finally feel like i am there!
Keep me updated on how you are going and i really wish you the best. We are gonna get through this, be super healthy and feel fantastic!November 26, 2010 at 9:55 pm #62305

A couple of other things
To help with the insomnia and anxiety you can get a cpl of really good herbal teas/powders
1. Mulungu (helps you get to sleep and stay in deep sleep for longer i think this is the most effective one)
2. Passionflower (helps you get to sleep but is not as strong as the mulungu; however it has a great calming and relaxing effect which would be good for your anxiety)
About the almond milk- Have a look at the ingredients and see if they added anything else. Have you ever had almonds before? You might be able to make your own.. if you are ok with almonds…
Also make sure you drink at least 2 L of water a day 3L is ideal though. This will help with flushing all the toxins out.November 28, 2010 at 9:37 am #62309
10:30am day 8: FINALLY! Had a day where Im seeing results. I have doubled up on my Garlic tablets each day and have doubled up on the Fungal Defense. I decided “I’m going to kick the sh#! out of this thing and get my life back.”
I actually slept until 7am this morning and I NEVER DO THAT! I am always up by 5am with all kinds of body aches/pains and stomach cramps. While I have drastically modified my diet and reduced my sugar intake I have not been able to completely eliminate sugar. I crave it like it’s heroin or cocaine but I’m getting better.
I have not taken any Apple Cider Vinegar since Wednesday becaue I left it at work so I will resume that tomorrow. Finally a light at the end of the tunnel..I’m hoping. IM STILL GIVING IT THE FINGER!
I think when I’m all healed I will go to all these doctors, tell them what I think of them, then inform them of how I healed myself without drugs. It will blow their mind. Keep sending good vibes my way.December 4, 2010 at 11:25 am #62325
I’ve been so angry these past few days I have forgotten how far I am into this detox thing. Im really getting confused as to what the proper “Candida Diet” really is. I’ve read so many conflicting reports about what I can and cannot eat that I am now down to chicken, spinich, eggs and a few other items. I have basically eliminated sugar and that has caused a few problems also. I’m amazed at how much is sugar is actually in processed foods. I feel like I’ve hit a plateau and am not making any progress.
Seasonal allergies are killing me right now. My sinus cavities are so plugged that I cannot breath at night which makes me breath though my mouth which in turn wakes me up ever 2 hours because of cotton-mouth. So I get up, take a drink and try to go back to sleep. I’m not sure if my sinus problems are due to how aggressive I’ve been with the anti-fungals or if I am fighting some kind of cold/flu bug. All I know is that I AM MISSERABLE.
This candida thing is much tougher than I thought. Keep sending good vibes my way.December 6, 2010 at 5:48 am #62330
Guess I’m in about week two by now and…gotta tell ya…I’m ANGRY! While my diet has not been perfect I do closely watch my sugar intake, do not eat bread or cake, dont drink soda…I eat pretty healthy. I guess what is making me so angry is I thought I would see better results by now.
I’m taking 4 fungal defense tablets a day, taking two garlic tablets per day, drinking about a half gallon of water per day mixed with apple cider vinegar. I do drink green tea during the day and I have read conflicting reports as to weather this allowed or not. I have also read that organic Dark Chocolate is permitted so I went and purchased some. HOly $#@! is that stuff expensive. $4 per bar.
It’s about 6:30am and I’ve been up since 2am with what I can only call a sinus headache, severe allergies, itchy/red/watery eyes, head congestion and conjunctivitius (ya know..that crap in the corner of your eyes when you wake up.)
Oh yea…another problem I have is that I AM ALWAYS HUNGRY!!! And I mean I could eat a horse at any time. I’m about average in size..5’11 and weigh 190 lbs. I work out every morning and my weight can go up or down 6-8 lbs in a week. It’s the craziest thing.
I live in central Oklahoma (I hate it here) and my work allows me to travel across the country. If I am out of Oklahoma for more than 2 days my symptoms clear up quickly. My eyes clear up, no body aches or pains, no headaches, no head conjestion..I basically feel great. I asked my allergist about this and she said that Oklahoma was one of the worst places in the country for allergy patients and what I experience when out of town is quite common. So…If anyone out there has a job in the transportation industry…I’m available.
I’m still gonna fight this and keep GIVING IT THE FINGER!December 6, 2010 at 7:29 pm #62333

I’m wondering about your eyes. You said you had wavy lines and black spots a while back. Is this still going on? If so you need to get to an eye Doc immediately–a retina specialist actually.
I’m just starting the diet (last Thursday) and have lost 7 lbs.
