I am wondering if I suffer from Candida overgrowth infection. The way I heard about candida is that I was searching for a cure to my acne. I dont have severe acne but I have moderate acne and have had since i was 13. I am 19.
The reasons i suspect i may have candida are: I have acne, that never seems to go away, ever. I took antibiotics for acne for extended periods of time and often took antibiotics as a kid because i got sick alot.I crave carbohydrates like crazy, especially sugar. I have also identified my acne to be related to my sugar intake, and less directly, my overall carbohydrate intake; when i decrease sugar intake, natural or processed (fruit still aggravates my acne), my acne gets better. However, my sugar cravings are not something easy to handle. I am an extremely disciplined person, so I can refrain from eating sugar, but it is TORTURE. IF I SEE A COMMERCIAL FOR CANDY I FEEL LIKE I AM GOING INSANE AND IF I WANDER UPON THE CANDY AISLE IN A STORE I WILL START TO DROOL. I did the candida spit test, where you spit in a glass of water in the morning, and my saliva had legs and was floating cloudy in the water almost immediately.
There are somethings about me that complicate making an accurate diagnosis. I am young and an extremely competitive athlete. Therefore, a high carbohydrate diet is natural. I actually get ringworm somewhat often, but I am a wrestler and this is kind of a common thing. Sometimes i feel fatigued, but like i said i am a highly competitive athlete and go to an ivy league school, so am often overworked. I suffer from depression often, but i have a family history of that. As you can see, many of the common symptoms of candida could exist in me for other reasons.
However, the two things that are hard to ignore are my extremely intense craving for carbs in general and especially sweets, and my spit test. I do not know about the reliability of the spit test, but i figured this would be the best place to check. Also, my frequent use of antibiotics throughout my life makes me suspiscious.
How likely is it that I have a candida infection? And if i do, what should I do?June 6, 2012 at 8:46 am #84063

The only way to know for certain is if you try out the diet with antifungals; if you experience die-off symptoms (flu like symptoms), then you likely have candida overgrowth.
Here’s a video about the spit test:
