In March 2013, I had a severe sore throat for two days before making an appointment to see my doctor. I had had strep throat four weeks prior to the new sore throat. I was given 500 mg of Amoxicillin three times a day for 10 days for the Strep Throat. When I called to make an appointment with my doctor for the new sore throat, I was told he was on vacation. I was assigned to another doctor. The doctor ordered a strep test that came back negative. The doctor said it was viral and it would take a few days to go away. Five days later my throat was still hurting badly. My doctor was still on vaca so I was assigned to another doctor. This doctor did not do any tests, but rescribed 875 mg of amoxicillin 2 x day for 10 days along with a pain killer. Within five days I became very ill. I could not swallow, I developed a yeast infection in my throat and esophagus, a harsh cough, headache and severe lack of appetite. I became breathless and I fatigued easily. In four weeks, I lost 33 lbs and could barely eat. When my doctor returned from vacation, he ordered blood tests which came back OK. He also ordered an endoscopy for the following day. The results of the endoscopy showed that I have a small hiatel hernia and Barett’s Esophagus. I’m 59 years old & up until that time I was in perfect health. I’ve always been very active, I excercise and I eat healthy. I’m retired and I have no stress in my life. I have never had any problems with digestion, other than occasional heartburn. I knew nothing about the hiatel hernia and I have never had a problem with acid reflux. Up until I was prescribed such a large dose of amoxicillin, I was great and living a good life. Now, I have no appetite, I have to force myself to eat and I’ve lost another 11 lbs since April, for a total weight loss of 44 lbs. I still have difficulty swallowing, nothing I eat tastes right and I’ve developed an aversion to all the foods I used to enjoy, like pasta, sauces, salads, ice cream and chocolate. I can’t eat any meat or bread. I’ve been surviving on eggs, fruit and Kefer ProBiotic drinks. I was prescribed Omeprazole 40 mg 2 x daily which seemed to help initially, but is no longer working. I have made an appointment to see a gastroenterology doctor who is not associated with my current health group. I need a second opinion. It just doesn’t seem right that I was perfectly healthy before taking the meds and now, out of nowhere, I have a hiatel hernia and Barett’s Esophogus. I’m so angry that a simple sore throat has turned my life upside down and inside out. I can’t stand feeling this way all the time. Does any of this make sense to you? Has anyone had this type of experience with antibiotics? I would very much appreciate any feedback or advise about what I should do at this point.June 4, 2013 at 4:26 pm #105635

Most of here on this forum are here because of the over use of anti-biotics. My story is very similar. I was a very healthy young male until taking months of anti-biotics for prostititis. Weeks after my anti-biotics I developed severe allergies, digestive issues and dozens of other symptoms that I’ve never had before.
It may be wise to look into a good naturopath or start an anti-candida protocol. There’s a lot of good info on this forum.
Here’s the link to a protocol created by a few forum members who have cured themselves ->June 4, 2013 at 5:30 pm #105642

I am horrified to hear that most of the people in this forum were made sick by antibiotics. Can’t these doctors who hand out prescriptions for large doses of antibiotics without administering tests be held accountable? So many healthy people being made sick by antibiotics. Someone should be held accountable!June 4, 2013 at 10:08 pm #105665

I say everyday I wish I can sue my ent for giving me bactrim every two months for 3 to 6 weeks without telling me anything. I often asked is this ok to be taking so much for sinus infections. Sad thing is 96 percent I sinus infections are fungus related. I woke up in August 2012 with acid reflux and bloating. And I’ve been fd up ever since. I’m horribly depressed. I was a marine, an mma fighter and now I feel like glass. I pretty much hate my life but I’m trying to stay positive and keep pushing. About the ppis the dr gave you. I was given ppis for my reflux which made me worse. Most acid refluxers are caused by low stomah acid. So those ppis make room for bacteria, parasites and yeast. More or less gut dysbiosis. I have bacteria and yeast. I know Barrett’s isn’t anything to mess with buy my reflux is cause by my bacteria and yeast overgrowth. My food doesn’t digest good and the gasses push back up to me. It’s a mucous reflux, I hardly get burning. A Naturapath would be a good idea cause most gi drs love going ppis and antibiotics. This stuff is a comes disease or Illness which I have been fighting for awhile now and have some good days but alot of bad days. Also a hiata hernia isn’t too bad if its not big. Most humans past 25 yrs old have them. I have one. It shouldn’t cause symptoms unless its large.
