I am really confused. I am in the first month of the cleanse. I bought almond milk and chocolate almond milk and while they don’t seem to have sugar they have tapioca starch. Can I drink this? Also I bought the Candida cleanse as it was advertised as a good anti fungal in a book ad a few websites that I read. However when I looked at the ingredients it has soy in it. Will it still work and if not does anyone have any suggestions on what to take?July 9, 2013 at 7:26 pm #107452

Almond milk should be avoided for as long as possible, but you could introduce it when your symptoms have gone for a while.
The reason is that Almond milk can contain traces of other nuts, and you want as little irritants/allergens to pass through your digestive system as possible. You may think you can tolerate Almonds, but you could still irritate your gut because Candida can weaken the lining and make you more susceptible to nuts and other allergens. The chocolate one is a definite no-no due to sugars being present (even some not listed in the ingredients) and cocoa will definitely irritate your gut. On this diet your gut will become more sensitive as you beat the candida to begin with.
Tapioca starch is one to avoid, the starch will remain undigested if you lack the enzymes, and sugars will be created, feeding the candida.
However if you want to try it no-one is holding you back. Some people have Almond milk with no troubles, but the tapioca is a problem. Try unsweetened organic coconut milk instead.
What is the Candida cleanse if you don’t mind me asking?
Most of soy is genetically modified, and you need to give your digestive system a break from all GM foods, which can cause many problems.
Not to mention in your vulnerable state (your gut) soy is best avoided at all costs. It is full of chemicals that wreak havoc on your whole body, and ultimately can make you feel worse as you try to overcome die-off symptoms.
Give your immune system the best fighting chance and avoid these foods as much as you can.July 9, 2013 at 7:37 pm #107453

Also worth noting is that almonds contain molds because they are a dried food item and candida can live on other molds quite easily; this is why cheese and all other dried food items are not allowed on the diet (such as apricots, figs, etc).
If you are doing a cleanse, you are basically throwing it away by consuming stuff like this…especially the chocalate almond milk. Its like going 5 steps forward and 4 steps back. Why do you think chocalate is ok on the diet?
If you want to consume almond milk in a safe manner, you need to make it at home. You need to soak the almonds in water and/or roast them in the oven, and this should remove almost all of the molds. Then you blend the almonds up in a blender and strain out the almonds…what is left over is almond milk! Takes maybe 2 minutes to make minus the roasting/soaking. We generally don’t recommend almond milk until you are symptom free which can take many months.
