I can’t imagine everything that is ok for the strict diet is listed so I thought I’d ask about a few things that I’d like to try. I just want to make sure they are safe to add!
I know vinegars are not allowed in general, but what about coconut vinegar? I had never heard of it, but I found it at the health food store and wondered if since it’s coconut if it could be used?
Since we can use olive oil, can we eat olives of any type?
I know oat bran is ok, but is the gluten free one better or does it matter (considering the regular organic oat bran is a lot cheaper than gf)?
What about nutritional yeast? That’s a really healthy form of yeast so would it be ok?
Grrrr – I swear there were a few other things I wanted to ask about but I can’t remember them now. I chalk it up to the brain fog…
Thanks!April 27, 2013 at 7:41 am #103638

I don’t know about coconut vinegar. Raw apple cider vinegar is acceptable. Bragg’s is a good brand for that. Olives are okay as long as they’re brined properly. Check the label, and avoid any that contain ingredients other than olives, salt, and water. As for oat bran, it sort of depends on you. I have a really severe sensitivity to gluten, so I buy gluten-free oat bran. Some people don’t and seem okay with the amount of gluten that results from cross-contamination. If you have leaky gut, avoiding gluten isn’t a bad idea. Gluten is also pretty inflammatory in general, which isn’t helpful when you’re trying to heal.
