Thought I would update on this post as I’ve tried to introduce some foods again.
I had a really stressful week at work and had to go out two nights for dinner with colleagues. I went to Lebanese restaurant and managed to eat only approved foods but felt swollen with a pain in my tummy – I think it might have been aubergine (eggplant) puree…and then I realised I ate a little feta cheese by mistake after someone told me it was cottage cheese. Then for lunch one day I took some aubergine again to see what would happen and I felt bloated again. I then ate some organic probiotic yogurt for a snack two days in a row and felt that feeling again. Today I haven’t eaten yogurt, just oat bran and unsweetened coconut milk, eggs and coconut bread (made with greek yogurt) and then a lunch of corned beef, lettuce, olive oil, guacamole and roast turnip. I also had a xylitol coconut drop biscuit with tea and I feel fine.
I’m wondering now if some vegetables are indeed causing havoc but also dairy. The only dairy I ate was butter really and the baked greek yogurt in my bread didn’t seem to do much.
It’s interesting trying new food again but unfortunately my thrush is back a bit so I’m going to back a step again for a while and see what happens. It just won’t go away completely,I think I have had thrush on and off (but most of the time) for over a year now. It’s very frustrating but I think the stressful week had something to do with it coming back. At least all of my other symptoms are gone now which is a relief!
I have decided against going for an allergy test at the moment because I want to keep more of a food and symptom diary for longer. I haven’t read great things about the tests accuracy as well which is putting me off. I have since found out that two members of my family (cousin distance) are coeliacs so that may go some way to explaining things.
We have a bank holiday weekend here and I’m having a good and pressure-free weekend in the kitchen which is a welcome relief!
