had a go with some Activia plain yoghurt as well, which doesn’t seem to have caused problems this time.
Activia plain yogurt contains 12 grams of sugar per 4 ounces of yogurt. This is too much unless you’re only going to eat perhaps one or two ounces a day. Plain Greek yogurt can be purchased with only 9 grams in an 8 ounce serving, plus it’s more beneficial as far as the bacteria are concerned. I would stop eating the Activia. Have you read about homemade kefir and the benefits?
I don’t know if there is lots more candida waiting to get out, or if I’m just left with the damage it did now – what do you think? I thought the anti-fungals were more for the candida overgrowth than the leaky gut – is this correct?
Yes that’s correct. Antifungals have nothing to do with leaky gut syndrome. All they can do is kill off some of the Candida.
have also been taking for the last month L-glutamine to help heal the gut wall and I no longer have pain when I rub my tummy or press my ileo-caecal valve,
That’s a good sign that your leaky gut is healing, so just stay on the supplements you’re taking for that.
Able – I read somewhere that you are now better from candida – is this true?
Yes, I’ve been completely symptom free for a year now.
Because I seem to keep reading horror stories of people who have been on the diet for years and any deviation from it knocks them back and they can never have a ‘normal’ life. Whilst I don’t intend to go back to eating chocolate every day and having sandwiches every meal I would like to think that one day I might be able to enjoy a rare takeaway pizza again, or a cake on my birthday, perhaps have crusty bread to dip in soup, or an ice cream on holiday. Is this realistic or is it just a pipe dream?
I can’t tell you when you’ll be able to do that without any repercussions because I continue to eat a minimum of wheat and sugar products. That doesn’t mean that I never have either, but I remain careful to obtain these in very small amounts and certainly not every day. Otherwise, I’m on what I consider to be a perfectly healthy diet quite unlike what we normal refer to as a normal American diet filled with carbohydrates.
Can anyone ever return to a normal healthy diet and how long did it take you if you managed to do so?
Like I stated, I’m still being a bit careful with my diet because I believe that after a Candida overgrowth the time it takes to make certain that the environment in the stomach and intestines are incapable of allowing another Candida overgrowth to begin can be extremely long. This means that you can be “cured” as far as symptoms are concerned, but if the environment hasn’t completely reached that state, then it would be possible to restart the growth of fungal Candida. The chance of this happening is multiplied by a fact which Raster mentioned; that being, the non-fungal form of Candida yeast will always be present and waiting for a chance to change into their fungal form. Does that make sense?
About the probiotics; you shouldn’t start a probiotic and then stop taking it, so that was a mistake in my opinion. The reason you felt bad while taking it was because it was causing die-off toxins. Were you taking Molybdenum Amino Acid Chelate at the time as directed on the protocol?
Post the name, strain count, and how many billions of CFU’s your probiotic contains since this is the most important factor in your treatment at this point.
