Were you still eating lots of other simple carbohydrates (pasta, bread, cereals, biscuits/crackers, rice etc)? You can think of these as “savoury sugar” (starch). They have basically the same effect on blood sugar, so it wouldn’t be surprising if your cravings were as strong as ever. If you stop eating all carbs except certain vegetables, your cravings will disappear in a week or so. You may still have some psychological pining for your favourite snacks, but physically you won’t feel you need sugar at all.
Anyway, try reading the links in Able’s signature for some idea of what you should be doing. It’s a big lifestyle change, but it’s not as bad as it may sound when you get going. You have the bonus of being able to treat a lot of other dietary-related issues, like insulin resitance, obesity, omega-3 deficiency (could be implicated in dry skin, as well as thyroid issues) etc, at the same time too. Good luck.
Remember stress causes chronic inflammation, depresses the immune system and screws up digestion so stop worrying about your hands and start treating them (with the protocol) instead!
