I’ve never ran across any research as far as using bitters when there are basically no enzymes being produced at all by the pancreas. Hopefully the bitters can help to “retrain” your pancreas to work again. I guess in this case all you can do is try.

As far as drinking water is concerned; the instructions on the forum are to drink ‘plenty’ of water while you’re on the bitters. The thirst is caused by the ‘flushing’ action that the bitters have on the liver, meaning the bitters not only allow stimulation of the nerves which produces enzymes, but they also cause an action which flushes toxins from the liver. If you drink a lot of water after the bitters and your meals, this should hopefully help with the thirst.

As far as when to take them is concerned; you can experiment with taking them both before or after your meals. People whose production of enzymes is slow should probably take them ten minutes before the meal. Remember, “drink extra water” with bitters.
