Thanks for the links Javizy. Very interesting! Especially the one explaining the possibility that probiotics may cause auto immune thyroid disease through molecular mimicry. This might explain why shortly after I started taking stronger probiotics and kefir my body temperature started to lower, a lot of my previous hypothyroid symptoms returned and I generally got “puffy” (edema, bloating…I’m thinking these are caused by inflammation). I have not had any blood work done this time, but previously being “puffy” has always corresponded with elevated antibodies.I can pretty much feel when I get inflamed and when there is auto immune response. This has been coming and going for a few years now and I have yet to figure out what exactly is causing it.
I’ve been seeing my doctor for little over a year. We’ve been testing the dose during this time and settled for the dose that I am on now. It’s a little high which means my own thyroid is no longer producing, but since this is what it takes for me to funnction normally, then so be it. He said there’s really no need for me to see him until October.
Yes Ray Peat is interesting. I am trying to incorporate some of his ideas but I am aware that not all of what he promotes works for everyone. Definetely trying to avoid PUFAs, as well as consuming more gelatin and less muscle meat. The idea of the importance of sugar for cellular metabolism was an eye opener for me especially since I came to a point where dealing with my returning hypothyroidism was more of an issue than Candida. I have to say that by introducing some fruit, berries and some starches I was finally able to get my temperatures up. Interestingly my candida symptoms did not get worse. I guess it’s all about finding the right balance, so as to not overdo the sugar. Keeping my temps up is a priority for me now. I don’t think I can heal anything else if they are as low as they were.
