The only way we will ever know if it’s celiac or not would be if they develop a test that does not require you to consume gluten. I have read about the cell walls of candida being similar to gluten and how your body can mistake the two…very interesting stuff!
All I know for now is that we posses the genetic markers for celiac, gluten causes obvious symptoms, and we are definitely dealing with candida. Right now I’m just trying to get the candida under control and may revisit the gluten issue one day. It has definitely been a hard journey and I’m so thankful to be able to get support from forums like this!
I believe a fungal overgrowth can be the result of impaired digestion. Candida may trigger Celiac, but people with a flat intestinal villi can develop a fungal overgrowth.
Without villi, the secretory IGA will be low and a lot of undigested food will go to the colon promoting fermentation and putrefaction, two things that candida loves.
