Once you have followed the strict Candida diet for some time, you can start to reintroduce some foods into your diet. These mostly fall under the categories of beans, high carb vegetables or fruits. These foods are banned from the earlier stages of the diet because of their sugar content, but they are a good place to start when you begin to return to a more normal eating plan.
Once you start adding some foods back you will find the Candida Diet much easier to follow, although you should never go back to the high sugar diet that you were probably indulging in before.
The key is to start off with small portions and see what they do to your Candida symptoms. If you find that one food in particular is causing problems, it will be easy to recognize.
Foods To Reintroduce
CATEGORY | FOODS TO REINTRODUCE | NOTES |
|---|---|---|
| BEANS AND OTHER PULSES | Azuki Beans Black Beans Carob Powder Chickpeas Mung Beans Lentils Lima Beans Pinto Beans Navy Beans Split Peas | Beans are banned from the strict anti-Candida diet because they contain lots of carbs. They can be reintroduced later on in your treatment because they also contain fiber and have antifungal properties. Beans do cause abdominal discomfort for some people with Candida so keep portions to a minimum (e.g. half a cup, 3 times a week). Canned beans are fine, but soaking can help make them more digestible. |
| VEGETABLES | Potatoes Carrots Sweet Potatoes Yams Beets Peas Parsnips Red Peppers Yucca Winter Squash | These vegetables are banned from the strict anti-Candida diet because of their high carbohydrate content. However, they are nutrient dense and can be reintroduced later on in your treatment. Try adding 2-3 small portions each week. Use them sparingly unless your Candida symptoms are completely reduced. Carrots are OK raw, but if you cook them the Glycemic Load increases dramatically. |
| FRUIT | Green Apples Pears Grapefruit Blueberries Raspberries Cranberries Huckleberries Blackberries | Fruits are banned from the strict anti-Candida diet because they contain natural sugars that feeds Candida. This is a list of low sugar fruits that may be OK to reintroduce in the later stages of your treatment. Some Candida sufferers can tolerate reintroducing some fruit, but it can cause a reaction in others. Try eating a small portion, 2-3 times a week. Use only fresh or frozen cranberries. |
